Bridging Science and Societal Needs, 4.5 hp (ECTS credits)

This course is a central PhD course under the Openlab collaboration between Stockholm University, KTH, Karolinska Institute, and Södertörn University College.

  • Philosophy of the Cultural Sciences, 7.5 ECTS (Autumn 2022) 2022-05-09 The course provides an opportunity for reflection on methodological and philosophical aspects of research in the humanities. Students are expected to present their projects in class, from a methodological perspective, and the course content will to some extent be tailored to the specific interests of the group.

  • Forskaretik i praktiken: Etnografi, 7,5 hp (HT 2022) 2022-06-22 Kursen ger fördjupad kunskap i forskaretisk problematik vid tillämpning av etnografiska metoder i det egna forskningsarbetet. Vidare övas färdighet och förmåga att reflektera kring forskaretisk problematik och göra forskaretiska bedömningar vid tillämpning av etnografiska metoder.

  • Advanced Studies in Linguistic Ethnography, 7,5 ECTS (Autumn 2022) 2022-08-26 The course deepens knowledge of the ontological and epistemological underpinnings of Linguistic Ethnography. It engages with LE’s affordances and limitations in interdisciplinary arenas such as security studies and digital studies. It also addresses the implications for LE of southern and decolonial theory as well as new materialist and ‘more than human’ theories.
  • Analyzing the Language of Truth and Deception, 7,5 ECTS (Spring 2023) 2022-11-21 Language is used in a (social) context for various purposes, e.g. to lie, mislead other people or to tell the truth. The course explores the concepts, perspectives and methods that have been developed in linguistics, philosophy, cognitive science, rhetoric and discourse analysis to illuminate language as action. The course critically discusses the concepts of truth based on how they are used in speech and writing, provides analysis tools and applies these to, for example, fake news and bullshit.
  • Andraspråks- och flerspråkighetsforskning i didaktiskt perspektiv, 7.5 hp - US007DO 2021-06-28 Kursen ges för doktorander antagna till forskarutbildning i språkdidaktik eller annat relevant ämne.
  • Doktorandkurs i samarbete mellan SU och Kulturhuset/Stadsteatern (HT 2021) 2021-05-19 Med start i oktober 2021 ges en ny fakultetsövergripande doktorandkurs med fokus på ’kulturproduktion’ i regi av SU (IMS, IKE och FEK) och Kulturhuset/Stadsteatern (KHST).
  • Dynamics of Multilingualism: Encounters and Entanglements (Autumn 2022) 2022-11-01 The course addresses the need for a multidisciplinary approach in relation to the global challenges of increased mobility and multilingualism. It draws on different theoretical and methodological frameworks in order to investigate the complexities regarding identity, corporeality, language, place, ethnicity and other differences in relation to the new global zones of contact.

  • Kreativt akademiskt skrivande, 7,5 hp (HT19) 2019-09-02 Under kursen Kreativt akademiskt skrivande tar vi oss an det akademiska skrivandet genom skrivövningar och läsande av texter som använder sig av andra skrivsätt än de traditionella.   • Litteraturdidaktik, 7.5 hp - US020DO 2021-06-28 Kursen ges för doktorander antagna till forskarutbildning i språkdidaktik eller annat relevant ämne.
  • Methods for Handling of Text Data, 7,5 ECTS (Spring 2023) 2022-11-10 The purpose of the course is to introduce basic theory and methodology for sampling, collection, preparation, annotation and analysis of text data in the humanities and social sciences, and to provide an overview of state-of-the-art language technology methods for automatically analysing large amounts of text.
  • Space and Place in the Humanities: Theories and Applications, 7,5 ECTS (Spring 2023) 2022-11-15 The course addresses the so-called ‘spatial turn’ in the humanities and offers PhD candidates theoretical and methodological tools to critically analyse space and its cultural significance from an interdisciplinary perspective and across time periods.
  • Språkdidaktik - teori, metod, tillämpning, 7.5 hp - US019DO 2021-12-08 Kursen ges för doktorander antagna till forskarutbildning i språkdidaktik eller annat relevant ämne.
  • Språkteori i didaktiskt perspektiv, 7.5 hp - US008DO 2021-12-16 Kursen ges för doktorander antagna till forskarutbildning i språkdidaktik eller annat relevant ämne.
  • Studying Interaction, 7,5 ECTS (Spring 2023) 2022-11-14 The course provides an overview of interaction research from the 1960s onwards with a focus on interactional research studies within three themes: from unimodality to multimodality; from membership categorization to social identity construction and from monolingualism to multilingualism. Empirical examples come from educational, everyday and working life contexts. The course also aims to develop the participants’ skills to perform interactional analyzes, especially for specific thesis projects.
  • The Dynamics of Multilingualism: Affinities and Affordances, 7,5 ECTS (Spring 2023) 2022-11-21 The course deals with the emergence of new global linguistic communities, associated communicative practices, and the affordances that enable their existence. Different research issues are explored through empirical analyses of data related to language phenomena, such as writing across languages, protest movements, or language and luxury tourism.
