South Africa-Sweden University Forum (SASUF)

30 universities from Sweden and South Africa collaborate in the project South Africa-Sweden University Forum (SASUF). The overall aim is to strengthen the ties between Sweden and South Africa in research, education and innovation. As from 2019 Stockholm University is a part of the project.

South Africa-Sweden University Forum (SASUF)
The South Africa-Sweden University Forum (SASUF) is a strategic internationalization project aiming at connecting universities with funding agencies, industry, ministries and society in Sweden and South Africa in working towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Stockholm University is one of the eight Swedish universities participating in the project coordinated by Uppsala University. The other Swedish universities are: Gothenburg University, Karlstad University, Lund University, Malmö University, Umeå University and University West.


Main project activities

  • Research and innovation weeks (2018, 2019 and 2020)
  • Collaboration seed funding (2018 and 2019)
  • Interactive platform (e-learning based collaborations)

Researchers and senior management teams at Swedish universities have the opportunity to participate in the research and innovation weeks of 2019 and 2020. Researchers also have the opportunity to apply for collaboration funding and to contribute to the interactive platform.

In Sweden SASUF is funded by STINT (Swedish Foundation for International Cooperation in Research and Higher Education) and the seven participating Swedish universities, in South Africa the project is funded by the National Research Foundation and the Department of Higher Education and Training.
