16 May Developing a pedagogic toolbox for CLIL/EMI; teaching and learning in an additional language CIVIS has launched a series of workshops on innovative pedagogies dedicated to academics coming from all fields of expertise. The main aim of these events is to share expertise in higher education teaching and learning and stimulate pedagogical innovation at the grassroots.

14 Sep Workshop: Design teaching for active learning in our active learning classrooms (ALC) One of the constant issues in all forms of education is how to plan teaching in such a way as to activate, challenge and motivate students. Research has demonstrated the value of interactive and collaborative forms of teaching where the students get opportunities to grapple with complex tasks in the form of scenarios, case studies or problems where theories and practice meet. In this workshop you will experience activities in an ALC room and we will use this teaching technique to learn about and discuss the thinking and research behind active learning.
27 Sep Professional development course 2: Teaching and Learning in the Science Academic Area This course will support you to develop your competence as a teacher in the Science Academic Area at Stockholm University. The course builds on professional development course 1 or equivalent.
04 Oct Research Supervision — theory and practice This course focuses on providing new or experienced doctoral supervisors with the means and opportunity to critically reflect on their supervision in order to learn new skills and generate inspiration through teamwork and engagement. The course is aimed at you with at least some experience of supervising a doctoral student.

This practical introductory course will help you get started teaching and become a more skilled university teacher.
18 Oct Introduction to teaching Biology A practice-oriented education aimed at postgraduate students within the Biology section with little or no experience of teaching. An opportunity to develop basic skills and confidence in higher education teaching within biology.
01 Nov Professional development course 1 Teaching and Learning The course aims to support the professional development of teachers from all disciplinary areas at Stockholm University and requires no previous teaching or online experience.
10 Nov Workshop: Teaching in English — strategies when teaching in a non-native language This workshop has been designed for non-native English speaking university teachers who teach (or plan to teach) their subject matter in English. The aim is to help participants reflect on their own teaching strategies with respect to the teaching language and how these relate to student learning.
